Shapton Glass Stone Whetstone Set: includes 500 Grit (#50102), 2000 Grit (#50302), 16,000 Grit (#50303), plus the Shapton Glass Stone Field Holder (#50300). Each stone: 210mm x 70mm, 5mm thick (total thickness is 10mm: 5mm of abrasive bonded to 5mm glass plate).

Big savings over purchasing the same items separately!

A great advanced sharpening stone set, with super-premium Japanese water stones! Includes a coarse, fine, and extra-fine grit, perfect to sharpen just about any kitchen or other knife. Plus you get the excellent Shapton Glass Stone Field Holder, made specifically to function both as a stand/holder, and also to store their Glass Stones.

Shapton GlassStones are very fast cutting and long-lasting. The ceramic abrasive is permanently bonded to a glass plate so the whole unit is very flat and very strong. The abrasive is extremely consistent and dense so you have a great feel and can produce very precise and clean edges, plus these have the convenience of splash-and-go sharpening (do not soak these stones). They are very popular with professional and experienced home knife sharpeners who value the excellent feedback/feel they provide, and their high quality and consistency. Highly recommended!

If you want to really complete your package and make sharpening more pleasant and functional for the long-haul without breaking the bank, also consider at least the small Naniwa flattening stone, it's affordable and does a pretty good job at flattening and cleaning your stones. For more serious flattening, the Atoma 140 or DMT DiaFlat are great choices. If you get REALLY serious and want the best of the best for flattening your stones, take a look at the Shapton Diamond Glass Lapping Plate! See all the flattening stone options available here.

Made in Japan.

Be sure to check out the Shapton FAQ.

And if you're wondering how difficult freehand sharpening is, or if you feel overwhelmed by all the information online, we had our friend Peter Nowlan from Halifax make this little video to help you get started. Sharpening can be a fun and rewarding skill!

Great sharpening stones

I am a leather worker so my tools should be extremely sharp. My new knives have 64 points on the Rockwell scale so sharpening them with regular sharpening stones is difficult and takes a lot of time. Using these stones I got impressive results. I can't add a video of cutting here because the site writing that I can add only images (

Feedback issues overblown

I have been enjoying this set greatly, they are very fast and very hard. I havnt figured out if I prefer these of the Naniwa professional stones that were my favourite previously.
It took me many years to get these because I have heard that the feel of sharpening is not as nice as the Naniwa stones but honestly I don’t feel like it’s that bad, the feedback isn’t quite as nice but I still feel quite connected to the stone.
